The day starts with a walking tour of Sibenik, the oldest native Croatian city in the Adriatic including the famous UNESCO world heritage site St. James Cathedral built without using any binding materials. This visit is followed by a scenic ride to the medieval town of Trogir perched on a small islet between the mainland and the island of Ciovo.  We then proceed to Klis and start with a lunch at Stella Croatica, an award winning producer of olive oil and other autochthonous delicacies before visiting the legendary Klis fortress nowadays famous as one of the few Croatian filming location of the world famed HBO Game of Thrones American fantasy drama television series. After a 20-minute drive we reach Split.  In AD 305, the world’s most powerful man, Emperor Diocletian, was faced with the decision on where to spend the rest of his days. Of all of the known world in those times, he chose to build his home in the heart of the region of Dalmatia, setting the first stones in place for the future city of Split, the Diocletian’s Palace. The palace gradually became more like a city within a city, as more and more was added to it. As it stands today, the ruins comprise a mix of architectural styles, with influences harking back to the Roman Empire, as well as the Middle Ages, Gothic and baroque periods. We start with a tour of the substructures to discover how life in the palace was organized during the Middle Ages while wandering through the labyrinth of tunnels then the Peristyle Square, at the heart of the palace complex and the Cathedral of St Doimnus and the nearby Temple of Jupiter, the gates that once served as entranceways to the palace itself and much more…

We then proceed to Starigrad, founded by the Greek 2.400 years ago, passing along the Ager Plain were the geometrical parcellation first laid out by the Greek colonists is so well preserved that it is on the UNECO world cultural list since 2008. Later we will stop off the beaten track, in an abandoned village Malo Grablje, for an authentic meal at the Stori Komin restaurant before going to the homonymous main city of the island. The city of Hvar.  From the cathedral, with the Bishop’s palace, on the biggest square in Dalmatia - Hvar’s Piazza to Hvar’s theater (and Arsenal), one of the first and oldest theaters in Europe founded in 1612. Erected on the ancient Arsenal that once served as a repair and refitting station for war galleons. The Franciscan monastery was founded in 1461 and boasts exceptional old masters’ collections. After a short drive we will reach the Hvar Fortress (called Spanjola - Spanish), built above old city in the mid-16th century with a thrilling view of the city of Hvar and surrounding Paklinski islands. Our trip continues in direction of Jelsa passing through the lavender fields and we will briefly visit Vrboska and the unique church of St. Mary of Mercy. Day 6 Thursday

We will come down from the highway and pass through the impressive delta of the Neretva river, well-known for the mandarin production, before briefly passing through Bosnia and Herzegovina and reaching the cities of Mali Ston and Ston (aka Salt City). The Bay of Ston region is renowned for 2 things: the monumental defensive system constructed by the Republic of Dubrovnik with the second largest walls in Europe and the tradition of oyster (and mussels) farming for more than 500 years. For those who are willing to, a city to city walk along the walls from Mali Ston to Ston allows a stunning view on both Mali Ston and Ston.  We briefly board our mini-coach to reach our next stop and enjoy local delicacies at the Bella Vista restaurant overlooking the magnificent Prapratno bay. After lunch we continue towards Dubrovnik with the coastal route and admire the panorama of the Elafiti islands.
